All you need to know about CTET and the opportunities on offer

CTET 2017

Let’s check the basics as we begin. CTET refers to Central Teacher Eligibility Test. The test is held two times a year and is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education on authority of The Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The CTET Exam is fairly new with the notification having been received in 2010. This nationally held test forms the basis against which teachers are recruited for all central government schools including Kendra Vidyalaya Schools, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Schools and Tibetan Schools. While CTET Exam is conducted by the central government, states which do not conduct the State Teacher Eligibility Test rely on the results from the CTET Exam to fulfill the teacher openings.

The CTET Exam covers the minimum eligibility qualifications that a person should possess for appointment as a teacher for classes I to VIII. The CTET Exam was introduced with a view to enforce national standards within the teaching community and to ensure that all students have access to an instructor benchmarked to a certain level and knowledge. The exam also ensures that the teacher has the required skills to tackle any challenges faced in the classrooms.

The CTET exam consists of multiple choice questions and covers various subjects. The test helps to focus the mind of aspiring teaches and there are no limits on the number of attempts a candidate makes. You are welcome to take the CTET test having cleared the exam before. Additional tries may help to increase the score; the exam itself poses no limits on retakes.

The duration of the CTET exam is two and a half hours and the exam has a minimum passing percentage of 60%. While the exam can be taken multiple times the CTET exam comes with a certification of seven years.

The exam is divided into two parts depending on the class that you want to teach. Paper I is for those aspirants who want to teach classes I to V, while Paper II is for those candidates who prefer to teach the higher classes i.e. VI to VIII. The candidate has the option to write both Papers at the same time.

With so much riding on the CTET exam it may seem overbearing. Helping aspirants to cross this crucial hurdle are online training courses such as Talent Sprint which will handhold you as you prepare for the CTET exams. There are also many mock tests available which will help put you in the examination environment so that you are mentally prepared for the conditions when you enter the examination centre.

Once you are a CTET qualified teacher you have access to apply for a teacher’s post at any of the central government and schools which include the Kendriya Vidyalaya Schools, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Schools and Tibetan Schools as well as schools that come under the administration of the union territories. Further, all unaided private schools that have recently sprung up all over the country list the CTET exam as one of the primary selection criteria for hiring new teachers. Schools which are managed and owned by the state governments which do not conduct the State Teacher Eligibility Test also consider the results of the CTET exam. State schools which have their own teacher examination are also happy to welcome teachers who have scored well on the CTET exam along with the state test as the CTET score gives them a good understanding of how well a candidate fared at the national level.

Remember it is always beneficial to have additional qualifications in any field as it can give you the edge against the other candidates applying for the same post. Further, preparing for the CTET 2017 exam will also help you to learn more making you a commanding teacher who is better prepared to guide young minds to reach their capabilities.
