The proposed Total budget outlay of the ‘SevaBhojYojna’ scheme for the FY 2018-19 and 2019-20 is Rs. 150 and Rs. 175 crores
The ‘SevaBhojYojna’ is a Central Sector Scheme under which Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) and Central Government’s share of Integrated Goods and Services Tax (IGST) paid by Charitable Religious Institutions like Temples, Gurudwara, Dharmik Ashram, Mosques, Dargah, Church, Matth, Monastries etc. on purchase of specific raw food items shall be reimbursed to them as financial assistance by the Government of India.

Banks, FIs sign inter-creditor pact to speed up the resolution of stressed assets
In a massive step taken to resolve Non Performing Assets (NPAs), Banks and financial institutions (FIs) including SBI and LIC, recently entered into an Inter-Creditor Agreement (ICA) to fast-track the resolution of stressed assets, under “Sashakt” scheme. This agreement will cover cases of stressed assets worth at least Rs 50 crore under consortium lending. The ICA is being signed by 22 public sector banks, including India Post Payments Bank, 19 private sector banks, and 32 foreign banks. Besides, 12 major FIs and intermediaries, like LIC, HUDCO, PFC, and REC, are also signatories to the pact.
Minimum investment limits lowered in Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana
According to PTI, the Sukanya Samriddhi Account can now be opened with a minimum deposit of Rs 250 which was Rs 1,000 earlier. Also, in subsequent years, the minimum of Rs 250 needs to be deposited each year as against Rs 1,000 earlier. A maximum of Rs 1.5 lakh can be deposited during the ongoing financial year. The account opened any time after the birth of a girl till she turns 10, will remain operative for 21 years from the date of its opening or till the marriage of the girl after she turns 18. To meet the requirement of her higher education expenses, partial withdrawal of up to 50 percent of the balance is allowed after she turns 18.
NITI Aayog signs SoI with Lupin Foundation for Collaborating in Aspirational Districts
A Statement of Intent (SoI) was signed today between NITI Aayog and Lupin Foundation to collaborate in Aspirational Districts Programme. The SoI was signed by Shri Yaduvendra Mathur, Additional Secretary, NITI Aayog and Shri Sita Ram Gupta, Executive Director, Lupin Foundation. For this programme, the NITI Aayog and Lupin Foundation are collaborating to improve indicators in education, health & nutrition, financial inclusion and skill development, agriculture and water resources and basic infrastructure in Aspirational Districts of India.
Union Sports Minister sanctions Financial Assistance of Rs 5 Lakh to Former Archer Ashok Soren
Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Rajyavardhan Rathore has sanctioned a financial assistance of five lakh rupees to former archer Ashok Soren. He is currently living in Jamshedpur in poor conditions. An official release said the financial assistance has been given from Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay National Welfare Fund for Sportspersons.
AIFF declares Sunil Chhetri player of the year
All India Football Federation (AIFF) named men’s football team captain Sunil Chhetri as the ‘AIFF Player of the Year’ during an executive committee meeting here on 22 July. In women’s category, 26-year-old Kamala Devi bagged the 2017 ‘AIFF Women Player of the Year.’ While young talent Anirudh Thapa was given the title of 2017 AIFF Emerging Player of the Year in men’s category, E Panthoi won the same award in the women’s category.

Lewis Hamilton wins German Grand Prix after Vettel crashes late
Lewis Hamilton regained the championship lead in unexpected and dramatic fashion on Sunday, winning the German Grand Prix after Sebastian Vettel crashed while leading near the end. Heavy rain played havoc late on at the Hockenheimring as Vettel misjudged a basic entry into a turn and slid over the gravel into the barriers with 15 laps to go.
Visit of Prime Minister to Rwanda, Uganda and South Africa (July 23-27, 2018)
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, will pay a State Visit to the Republic of Rwanda (23-24 July), Republic of Uganda (24-25 July) and Republic of South Africa (25-27 July). This will be the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Rwanda and the first visit by our Prime Minister to Uganda in over 20 years. The visit to South Africa is in the context of BRICS Summit.
India, Rwanda sign eight agreements
India and Rwanda signed eight agreements following delegation-level talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rwandan President Paul Kagame in Kigali. The two countries signed agreements in the fields of Defence, Trade, Agriculture, Leather and allied products and Dairy. India also extended two Lines of Credit of 100 million US dollars each – one for development of industrial parks and Kigali Special Economic Zone, and the other for three agricultural projects in Rwanda.

Iran becomes India’s No. 2 oil supplier, ahead of Saudi Arabia
Iran was the second-biggest oil supplier to Indian state refiners between April and June, India’s oil minister said on 23 July, replacing Saudi Arabia as companies took advantage of steeper discounts offered by Tehran. India, Iran’s top oil client after China, shipped in 5.67 million tonnes or about 457,000 barrels per day (bpd) of oil from the country in the first three months of this fiscal year, Dharmendra Pradhan told lawmakers in a written reply.
India drops three ranks in AT Kearney FDI Confidence Index
India in 2018 has fallen out of the top 10 destinations for FDI in terms of its attractiveness, according to an AT Kearney report, which says this could be due to teething troubles in the implementation of the goods and services tax and the government’s demonetization decision in 2016. India ranks 11 in 2018 AT Kearney FDI Confidence Index, down from 8 in 2017 and 9 in 2016.
Pakistan gets its first woman chief justice of the high court
Pakistan has got its first-ever woman Chief Justice of a high court. Justice Tahira Safdar was named as the Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar. Justice Safdar had made history in 1982 when she became the first woman civil judge in Balochistan. She is currently a member of the three-judge special court conducting the trial of former President Pervez Musharraf for committing treason by proclaiming a state of emergency in November 2007.
