Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated every year on July 26 since the year 1999. The day is dedicated to our Kargil War’s Heroes. This was the 20th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas. It is celebrated in view of Operation Vijay and Kargil War that ended on July 26, 1999. After this, India successfully took command of the high outposts which had been lost to Pakistan. The theme for Kargil Vijay Diwas 2019 was “Remember, Rejoice and Renew”.

 

Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh launches DDP Dashboard

Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh launched here today a Dashboard of Department Defence Production (DDP), Ministry of Defence, to help in effective monitoring of various initiatives and schemes of the department. Through this initiative, the Ministry will be able to keep track of the major components of Defence Production, including defence exports, defence offsets, Intellectual Property Rights (Number of Patents registered) and MissionRaksha Gyan Shakti. This Dashboard will have capsulated information in a user-friendly interface that includes defence projects under ‘Make in India’, startups in defence sector, investments in defence corridors in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu and artificial intelligence projects in defence.

 

B S Yediyurappa was sworn in as CM of Karnataka

B S Yediyurappa has been sworn in as Chief Minister of Karnataka. He is the BJP State President in Karnataka. He has now taken the oath of office as Chief Minister of Karnataka for the fourth time. This comes after the ex-Chief Minister of Karnataka (HD Kumaraswamy) has submitted his resignation to the Governor of Karnataka as he failed to pass the trust vote of the assembly.

 

India’s armed forces conduct India’s first Space warfare exercise “IndSpaceEx”

As India commemorates 20 years of the Kargil war, it is also preparing for wars of the future, wars that will be fought as much in space as on earth. The country’s armed forces, along with Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and other stakeholders, will conduct IndSpaceEx on July 25-26. The exercise will access threats in space from a military perspective and India’s current capability in space. DRDO will be the accessing agency for the exercise.

DCC imposes the penalty of Rs.3050 crore on Airtel, Vodafone Idea on recommendations by TRAI

The Digital Communications Commission (DCC) , on recommendations by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), approved the penalty of Rs.3050 crore to be imposed on Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea for not providing points of interconnection to Reliance as TRAI recommended imposing a total penalty to those network operators for allegedly denying interconnectivity to Reliance Jio in October 2016.

 

Sebi fixes a minimum staggered delivery period for commodity futures at 5 days

Market regulator, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi), has expanded the horizon of all compulsory delivery contracts under staggered delivery, a move that aims to reduce price manipulation and improve liquidity on commodity exchanges. SEBI has fixed the minimum duration of the staggered delivery period at five working days for all commodity futures. This has been done to bring uniformity in the timeline across exchanges. The staggered delivery period is the duration during which sellers or buyers having an open position may submit an intention to give or take the delivery of the contract.

NTPC, BHEL ink pact to set up JV for eco-friendly power plant

NTPC Limited and Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for forming a Joint Venture company, to set up an 800 MW Technology Demonstration Plant (TDP) at NTPC’s existing power plant in Sipat, Chhattisgarh. The demonstration plant shall be based on the Advanced Ultra Super Critical (AUSC) technology which marks a significant improvement in operational parameters over contemporary supercritical technology. The plant shall be the most efficient power plant in the world, once it becomes operational, resulting in a reduction of carbon-di-oxide emission by about 20 percent as compared to the conventional sub-critical technology.

 

ICMR in partnership with Population Council launches National Data Quality Forum

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)’s National Institute for Medical Statistics (ICMR-NIMS), in partnership with Population Council, launched the National Data Quality Forum (NDQF) in New Delhi. NDQF will integrate learnings from scientific and evidence-based initiatives and guide actions through periodic workshops and conferences. Its activities will help establish protocols and good practices of data collection, storage, use and dissemination that can be applied to health and demographic data, as well as replicated across industries and sectors noted a release issued by ICMR.

American Caeleb Dressel broke the world record in the men’s 100 meters butterfly, obliterating Michael Phelps’s old mark with a jaw-dropping semi-final swim. The defending champion turned over half a second inside world record pace before driving home to clock 49.50 seconds in Gwangju, 0.32 quicker than American legend Phelps went at the 2009 world championships in Rome.

Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury appointed as chairman of Public Accounts Committee

The leader of the Congress party in the Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury was appointed as the Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). In the last term, the post was held by Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, who in the recently concluded elections lost from Gulbarga constituency in Karnataka to BJP’s Umesh Jadhav. Chowdhury along with former Union Ministers Satyapal Singh and Jayant Sinha were elected as the members of PAC a few weeks ago.
