Ministry of mines organized a workshop called ‘Waste To Wealth’

In a step towards productive utilization of bauxite residue, commonly known as the ‘Red Mud’, an interactive workshop called ‘Waste To Wealth’ was organized by the Ministry of Mines in the capital. The present status regarding the generation of Red Mud and its safe disposal and utilization were discussed. The workshop, which was presided over by Dr. K. Rajeswara Rao, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Mines, was organized in association with the Jawaharlal Nehru Aluminium Research Development and Design Centre (JNARDDC) Nagpur.

 

Nepal invited as Gita Jayanti Mahotsav 2019 partner

Manohar Lal Khattar, Chief Minister of Haryana has invited Nepal to be the partner country for 2019 International Gita Jayanti Mahotsav scheduled to be held at Kurukshetra, Haryana from December 3 to 8,2019. Khattar made this offer to Nilamber Acharya, Ambassador of Nepal to India. The chief minister said Haryana has been celebrating Gita Jayanti Mahotsav for the last three years and every year a country is invited to become the partner country for the mega event.

 

Statewide tree plantation program launched by Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu

The campaign Clean-Green Arunachal Campaign 2019 was launched in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh by CM Pema Khandu to plant 1 lakh tree saplings within the next 24 hour. The campaign was held as part of VanMahotsav celebration which plans to plant 1crore trees within the next 5 years.

NITI Aayog partners with WhatsApp to promote women entrepreneurs

NITI Aayog and Facebook-owned WhatsApp, under the aegis of its Women Entrepreneurship Platform (WEP), have announced a partnership to support the growth of a robust ecosystem to promote women entrepreneurs in India. WhatsApp, in collaboration with NITI Aayog, will announce an annual calendar of events aimed at capacity building of women entrepreneurs and develop specific programs aimed at addressing challenges faced by women entrepreneurs. The initiative would target the registered users of WEP. WhatsApp will also partner with the Women Transforming India (WTI) Awards 2019, the flagship initiative of NITI Aayog. WhatsApp has decided to provide support amounting to $100,000 to WTI winners.

NHA and NATHEALTH signed MoU under Ayushman Bharat scheme

The National Health Authority (NHA) and the Healthcare Federation of India (NATHEALTH) signed MoU (Memorandum of understanding), to improve the efficiency of Service Delivery under Ayushman Bharat scheme which is also called as Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana(PMJAY). Under the vision of “Health for All”, this collaboration will provide and enable the interface for testing healthcare innovation ecosystem, adopting, funding, and providing mentorship in creating channels for scaling these innovations.

Sri Lanka’s Lasith Malinga retires from ODI cricket

Sri Lanka fast bowler Lasith Malinga retired from ODI cricket after the Islanders pulled off an emphatic victory over Bangladesh in the 1st ODI in Colombo. In his final match, the bowler recorded figures of 3/38 in 9.3 overs. He finished his career with a wicket in his final ball. Overall, in his career, Malinga played 30 Tests in which he picked up 101 wickets at an average of 33.16. He also played 226 ODIs for Sri Lanka, in which he picked up 338 wickets at an average of 28.94. Malinga has also played 73 T20Is in which he recorded 97 wickets at an average of 19.7 and will still be available for selection in the upcoming T20 World Cup next year.

 

Pakistan’s bowler Mohammad Amir retires from Test cricket, aged 27

Pakistan left-arm fast bowler Mohammad Amir has retired from Test cricket at the age of 27. Amir, who took 17 wickets at the recent World Cup, will continue to play one-day and Twenty20 international cricket. After making his Test debut aged 17 against Sri Lanka in 2009. Amir played 36 Tests, taking 119 wickets at an average of 30.47, with a best of 6-44 against West Indies in Kingston in 2017.

 

Bhakti Kulkarni retains National Women’s Chess Championship

Defending champion Bhakti Kulkarni of Air India assured herself of the title with a round to spare, after posting a win over Tamil Nadu’s K Priyanka in the 10th and penultimate round of the 46th National Women Chess Championship. Playing consistently throughout the tournament, Bhakti, a Woman Grand Master, again showed her tactical acumen to garner a full point against her rival in 69 moves arrived out of Ruy Lopez Opening.

Lt Gen Paramjit Singh to be new DGMO of Army

Lt Gen Paramjit Singh, who has vast experience in counter-terror operations, will be the next Director-General of Military Operations (DGMO) of the Indian Army. Lt Gen Singh, currently serving as General Officer Commanding of the Army’s Nagrota-based XVI Corps, will take over as the new DGMO on October 15, succeeding Lt Gen Anil Chauhan. Lt Gen Chauhan has been appointed new General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Command.

Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Steel held a meeting with Mr. Khalid Al-Falih, Minister of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources of Saudi Arabia and Chairman of Saudi Aramco in New Delhi. They discussed improving India-Saudi Arabia hydrocarbon cooperation in order to strengthen the existing overall strategic partnership between the two countries.

 

BRICS Foreign Ministers Meeting 2019 Held In Rio De Janeiro, Brazil

Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) Foreign Ministers Meet was held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on July 25-26, 2019. India was represented by Gen. (retd) VK Singh who is the Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways. The members condemned terrorism in all its forms & manifestations and recognized terrorist acts as criminal and unjustifiable.
