Prof. Vivekanand B Khanapuri is a prominent academic and industry expert, serving as a Professor of Operations & Supply Chain Management at the renowned Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Mumbai. With a strong academic background and extensive practical experience and a career spanning 35+ years, he has excelled in academia, research, and industry engagements.
Prof. Khanapuri's teaching engagements at PG and Doctoral level span across various subjects; Strategic Project Management, Portfolio and Program Management, Strategic Sourcing, Strategic New Product Development, Information Technology Applications and Business Process Reengineering, Enterprise Asset Management, Productivity engineering and Management, Business & Engineering Economics, shaping the next generation of engineering and management leaders over the past three decades.
His research primarily focuses on Operations and Supply Chain Management, with a specific emphasis on Project Management & Supply Chain Management, contributing valuable insights to contemporary organizational challenges. Prof. Khanapuri is a recognized authority in Industrial Consulting, offering expertise in areas Strategic Management, Sourcing, Productivity, Lean Thinking, Industrial Engineering, Value Engineering, Project Management, Maintenance Management, and Logistics & Supply Chain Management. He has provided Capability building, Applied research and Consulting services across the sectors covering Oil and Gas, Automotive, Pharmaceuticals, Engineering, FMCG and government organisations.
Prior to joining academics, he has worked for six years in light engineering manufacturing organisation across different functions such as Operations, Product Design & Development, Vendor and subcontract management, Sale and Service. Prof. Khanapuri brings a practical perspective to his academic and consulting work.
His intellectual contributions include 50+ research papers in international and national journals and conferences, reflecting his commitment to advancing knowledge in his field. He has conducted training sessions and consulting projects for notable organizations, including, HPCL, IOCL, BPCL, GSFC, CARIN ENERGY, RELIANCE INDUSTRIES Ltd., ADANI, MSEDCL, NTPC, VIKRAM SOLAR, BEROE CONSULTING, TMTL, TATA POWER, TATA ELECTRONICS, TRENT Ltd, JUBILANT LIFE SCIENCES, DEA (Ministry of Finance, GOI), MOSPI, DOPT, DRDO, BEL etc, spanning various domains like Productivity, Operations, Project Management, Strategic Sourcing, Maintenance, and Manufacturing Management. He has worked on applied research and consulting projects applying the contemporary body of knowledge including Discrete event Simulation, Machine Learning and AI.
In his current capacity, he has been instrumental in successfully designing and launching of initiatives such as synchronous online executive certificate programs, applied research projects for different industries and government bodies. Prof. Khanapuri's has earlier held key leadership roles as, Advisor to IT infrastructure, Member Estate management, Chair Institute Standing committee for Procurement, Warden Hostels, Student activities, Dean (Academic) and was the member of the Core Team for the design, development and launch of Visionary Leadership Program in Manufacturing (VLFM).
His dedication to nurturing socially responsible leaders is evident through his role as Faculty Advisor for the IIM Mumbai - ENACTUS Team, where students actively engage in impactful social projects.
