Dr Raj Reddy

Program Chairperson

Dr Raj Reddy is the chairperson of the Moza Bint Nasser University Professor of Computer Science and Robotics in the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University.

Dr Reddy’s research interests include artificial intelligence and the study of human-computer interaction. His current research interests include Technology in Service of Society, Cognition Amplifiers and Guardian Angels, Digital Democracy, Universal Digital Archive, Voice Computing for the 3B semi-literate populations at the bottom of the pyramid, and KG to PG Micro-Universities.

Dr Reddy was awarded the Legion of Honor by President Mitterand of France in 1984 and Padma Bhushan by President of India in 2001. He was awarded the ACM Turing Award in 1994, the Okawa Prize in 2004, the Honda Prize in 2005, and the Vannevar Bush Award in 2006. He served as co-chair of the President’s Information Technology Advisory Committee (PITAC) from 1999 to 2001.

Praveen Garimella

Adjunct Faculty, Carnegie Mellon University

Praveen Garimella is a seasoned professional who has dedicated nearly two decades of his career to the MSIT-IIITH community. He currently holds a position as an Adjunct Research Fellow at Carnegie Mellon University, where he actively participates and collaborates with fellow researchers to drive innovation for social good. His expertise is in computer science, software engineering, and artificial intelligence.

Praveen's research is primarily anchored in the intersection of Education Technology and Learning Science, with a specific focus on harnessing AI to augment student learning. He has delved into numerous AI applications throughout his career, each tailored to enrich the educational journey of students.

During his tenure with the MSIT program, Praveen pioneered the 'learning by doing' pedagogy, bringing an innovative, project-centered curriculum to life. This unique approach emphasizes the value of hands-on experience, inspiring students to gain a deeper understanding of their respective fields of study. It has been both his privilege and passion to drive such transformative educational strategies, and he looks forward to continuing his exploration in this thrilling domain of academia.

Dr Arun Kumar Parayatham

Program Registrar

Dr Arun Kumar Parayatham is a Resource Principal Mentor and Associate Dean (Academics) at Consortium Institutions of Higher Learning, Hyderabad. He holds a Master of Technology degree in Computer Science from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad and a Ph.D. in Mathematics from University of Hyderabad. He was awarded the prestigious National Board for Higher Mathematics, Department of Atomic Energy, Govt of India, Research Award for his Ph.D. program, and Post-Doctoral research at University of Hyderabad.

He has more than two decades of experience in teaching and mentoring students at various institutions, including University of Hyderabad, IIIT Hyderabad. He brings the best content available and motivates students to achieve international standards by assimilating knowledge and technology coupled with excellent problem-solving skills hands-on. He is passionate about collaborating with industry and expose students to the industry environment early and work on finding solutions to challenging problems. He started offering Data Science Specialisation way back in 2011 and trained more than 300 students in Data Science. He is working on projects for developing AI tools like engaging students, continuous monitoring and guiding students, automated evaluation, and helping students to do their best in online education.

Deepak Kumar Reddy Bhimavarapu

Deepak is an Associate Mentor at the MSIT Program. His teaching methods involve experiential learning that helps students develop practical skills and learn in a real-world setting. His dedication to staying at the forefront of industry trends is evident as he continuously upgrades his subject matter expertise, ensuring that he always develops cutting-edge learning content for students. Beyond his academic endeavors, Deepak also co-owns a restaurant in Hyderabad.

A distinguished Researcher with an extensive expertise encompassing Deep Learning, particularly in Text-to-Speech Synthesis (TTS) and other related NLP domains. Additionally, he serves as a Supervising Faculty, guiding and mentoring students engaged in Machine Learning projects during their apprenticeship.
